VII-th International festival of sandy sculptures «Pure spring» - 2008

     From July, 12th till August, 17th, 2008 in St.-Petersburg has passed VII International festival of sandy sculptures on the Peter and Paul Fortress beach, organised by In common producer centre "Art-assemblies",  «Club of friends of the Peter and Paul Fortress», the State Museum of History of St.-Petersburg and Committee on Culture of the Government of St.-Petersburg with support of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation and Interparliamentary Assembly of the states - participants CIS.

The Peter and Paul Fortress throughout three centuries were the soul and a city symbol, its visit card. A beach in the historical centre – a rare example for the European cities of a natural beach in a frame of architectural masterpieces.

  20 commands from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Latvia, Netherlands, Russia, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Estonia, and also representatives of the CIS countries takes part In festival. It has been prepared more than 100 tons of specially selected sand and week on performance of the competitive task has been given to commands. Traditionally the festival became one of the most well-known city events, and has been widely presented in mass media not only in Russia, but also abroad.

For a month a beach with sandy sculptures has visited more than 170 000 persons! Members of the Government of St.-Petersburg and Moscow, representatives of Embassies and Consulate generals, outstanding figures of culture and art were special visitors of Festival.

     Theme of Festival of 2008 – «the Pure spring»

     The present Festival was hold in a new format  - carrying out of evening concerts in which have taken part conducting Russian and foreign classical, jazz, fate, pop-musicians, and as well-known DJ's of  St.-Petersburg and Russia.

  Also in Festival carrying out in territory of the Beach of the Peter and Paul Fortress to each country which has presented a command to participation in Festival, possibility to spend Day of National Culture.

  The festival of a sandy sculpture «Pure spring» – 2008 became a bright international cultural event, and has shown once again that the Peter and Paul Fortress Beach is not only favourite zone of rest of townspeople and city visitors, but also it's a place of carrying out of festivals, installations, theatrical and musical international programs thanks to which people of the various states and faiths can get acquainted with art and culture of the different people.
