«Wall-E»

Nazarkin Yuriy (Russia, Ryazan)
Marieke Van der Meer (the Netherlands)

The cartoon “Wall-E” is a love story of two robots. One of them Wall-E is a garbage collector on the Earth and the other one (Eva) is sent to the Earth to check if there is human life on the planet. In our sculpture we are trying to show not only the love between two characters but to attract attention to the problem of pollution on our planet.

«The Struggle of the Worlds»

Artyom Samoylov (the Ukraine, Kharkov)
Oleg Masalitin (the Ukraine, Kharkov)

When choosing the idea for our composition we decided to dwell upon this film because we liked the fact that two fantastic films “The Aliens” and “The Predator” are interweaved in one script. It’s not the struggle of the third civilizations and unhacked struggle of the Good and the Evil that takes place here. It’s the struggle of three absolutely different cultures, different worlds. It also contains some kind of warning for the mankind: be careful with not always very sensible scientific experiences.

«Everything that does not kill makes us stronger»

Darya Krupeneva (Russia, Krasnoyarsk)
Vladimir Likhodedov (Russia, Krasnoyarsk)

The film Conan the barbarian plot (historical adventurous saga)
In old times, 12 thousand years B.C. a young warrior Conan, an athlete with strong spirits takes a revenge on a wicked governor Thulsa Doom for a sophisticated murder of his parents, which happened in his far childhood. With the wish of revenge in his heart Conan goes and seeks Thulsa Doom. He finds a sword at a grave-mound and saves an archer Subotai enchained to a cliff. The two friends make their way to the town of Zamora and decide to steal a huge ruby from the Tower of Elephant – the temple of a new snake cult. There they meet an Amazon girl Valeria. Conan takes an emblem of two snake heads over the Sun which he saw in Thulsa Doom’s battle standard. The thieves successfully escape, Conan gives the ruby to Valeria, they spend the night together. In the morning they are captured by the King’s solgiers. King Osric sets them free and asks to return his daughter who has been seduced into joining the snake cult. The thieves find a burial ground in a desert and make it their base. Conan starts to the main temple of Thulsa Doom but gets captured by the guards. After a short talk Thulsa Doom orders that Conan be crucified on the Tree of Woe but the friends save him. At night the thieves enter the main temple’s cave, rescue the princess and get out fighting, but Valeria gets mortally wounded by Doom’s arrow. Conan and Subotai get ready to meet Doom’s troop, surround the hill with poles, make traps, tie up the princess on the foreground.
Doom’s warriors fall into the ambush and the heroes slay them one by one. Subotai saves the princess from the wizard’s arrow and the spell over her is broken. With the help of the princess Conan enters Doom’s temple at night and beheads him in front of his cult members. “Orphans of Doom” vanish for home, Conan burns the temple and carries the princess away.
“Full-blooded (and bloody) adventurous epos” (in the opinion of an American critic Leonard Moltin) created after the novels by Robert E. Howard in a sword-and-sorcery style caused a mixed response, up to blaming the film director John Milius in hardhattism, condonation of cruelty and violence, propagation of antihuman, nearly fascist ideology. But at a closer look this film has turned to be powerful in its direction, impressive in its production (the producer, Raffaella de Laurentiis, daughter of Dino de Laurentiis and Silvana Mangano, spent $20 mill on scenery, costumes and the whole entourage of ancient times). Conan the barbarian could be a bit too much tough and bloody like those really barbarous times. However, it’s an exciting and expressive historical saga about a courageous hero. He conquers the cruel governor having behold the Riddle of Steel which his father’s unique sword is made of.
It was Steven Spielberg who recommended for the main part a bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger, an Austrian by origin, wasting himself for too trivial movies. “Old-fashioned B-class movie but in new large proportions” (reference of Video Guide Movie) appeared quite all right for him especially in the situation of thirst of the audience to supershows with fairy, fantastic or legendary plots devoted to ancient past or directed to unknown future. It’s natural that the second character which famed Schwarzenegger and strengthened his star status was a futuristic mechanic personage, robot-android in Terminator.

«The Grand Masters»

Ruslan Arslanbaev (Russia, Saint Petersburg)
Alexey Kolesnikov (Russia, Saint Petersburg)

The film “The White Sun of the Desert” is an iconic film for many people who used to live in the USSR and we are among them.
The struggle of the Evil and the Good taking place in the film like on a chess board with white and black chess pieces which are associated with the characters of the film who did bit for the victory of the Good in this “game of chess”.

«Well-known»

Zigmunds VILNIS (Latvia)
Othmar SHIFFER-BELZ (Germany)

Mr. Bean is familiar to everyone. Maybe because everyone can see something of himself in him. Everyone once felt awkward. But the main thing is that Mr. Bean always causes a kind smile and brings good feelings.

«And yet he is alive!»

Sergey Tselebrovsky (Russia, Moscow region, Zhukovsky)
Sergey Zaplatin (Russia, Ekaterinburg)

In spite of the sad final King Kong still stays alive in the memory of millions of all those who have seen this amazingly bright dynamic film. The story carries away from the first minutes and doesn’t release up to the last shot. Love and rage, frightening power and sensibilities are reflected in the movie and in the eyes of the giant King Kong. Greatness and hopelessness of this fantastic love story can’t leave anyone indifferent. No doubt that it’s one of the most amazing and exciting works in the history of cinematography. In a thoughtful image of its creator Peter Jackson one can read the idea: And yet he is alive…

«Shot by shot ― history birth»

Tatyana Kuznetsova (Russia, Perm)
Ainars Zingniks (Latvia)

A film shot is a connection between a real world and a camera. A shot can do everything ― make one older, murder, make immortal.
Imperceptible time can be captured only by a shot.
Magic history moments can stay with us only on a film tape.
A shot is an eternal fragile guardian of the time.
A shot is our life, our memory, our history.

«Kin-dza-dza!»

Agnese Rudzite(Latvia)
Antti Pedrozo (Finland)

For me the movie Kin-dza-dza! is one of the brightest memories of my childhood. Then it attracted by its unusual visual images and humor. It was especially interesting to watch the film anew now being a grown-up. I think that the ideas expressed in the movie – social hierarchy and a place of a person in it – are still actual. And I’m also still delighted by visual qualities of Kin-dza-dza! That’s why I’ve decided to show the mood of the movie in my sculpture.

«World Cinema: The Lord of the Rings»

Alexander Skarednov(Russia, Tumen)
Anatoly Skarednov (Russia, Perm)

The Lord of the Rings is a high fantasy novel by an English writer J.R.R. Tolkien. It’s one of the most famous books of the 20th century. It’s translated to at least 38 languages. In 2001, 2003 a three-part screening of the novel by Peter Jackson was released: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The trilogy was acclaimed by critics and won multiple awards including 17 Oscars. The final installment broke the record and won a total of 11 Oscars. Besides, The Return of the King became the first trequel to take Oscar as The Best Film. The trilogy has become one of the most successful film projects of our times: while the production cost $280 million the box-office receipts were about $3 billions. And The Return of the King is ranked among three of the best box-office hits.
The sculpture depicts the scene of fight between the daughter of the King and Nazgūl. At a side there is a castle Minas Tirith, on the backside of the composition ― the film heroes. And over all of them there is a key personage of the trilogy ― Gollum. The base of the composition has a Ring shape.

«At the edge of reality»

Every movie is a little life we live through while watching. Whether it’s a real people’s life in documentaries or fiction stories, for a couple of hours a film becomes a part of our life and its personages — our neighbors, friends or enemies.
When a movie is over we take a piece of it with us, transfer it into our life and keep it deep in our souls.

«The way to «The Oscar Prize»

Alexander Kim (the Republic of Karelia, Petrozavodsk)
Anastasia Kim (the Republic of Karelia, Petrozavodsk)

The Best is more than the good.
Since the childhood we determine the best friend, the best flower, the best house, the best day, the best film… And only later on the word “the best” gains professional shade of meaning.
A lot of prizes are given for the best film. One of the most prestigious is the Oscar Prize. This is a reward given by the American Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences annually. The way to “Oscar” is hard. Many motion picture companies reached this peak – the Oscar Prize. The great directors, actors, camera men put in all their forces and talent to reach this cinematic art peak. As a result of this labour the mankind gets the masterpieces of the cinema and we can not imagine life without this.
